Wolfsgruppe BBQ 2015
We’re at an outdoor cinema and all seats are taken. The weather is good. It’s warm, or we’re warmed up by a selection of fine beverages we’ve had since our arrival in Środa Wielkopolska. Everyone has a glass, a bottle or a can in their hand. A few people are standing in behind sipping on some drinks patiently waiting for the show to begin. Guys in front seats wave their hands up in the air in excitement when El Kamel, Wolfsgruppe’s official DJ, now Master of Ceremony, announces through the speakers in a funny made up mix of Polish, German and English that the show is about to begin.
We’re at the exclusive pre-premiere screening of the latest, long-awaited production from Loniek – the official video from last year’s Wolfsgruppe VAG Event. There was neither red carpet earlier nor paparazzis snapping and flashing. Not even a single groupie was seen wandering about though the selection of vehicles in the car park, their shiny wheels and spotless paint have potential to make moths moist. Maybe.
But probably not. Not this time. It’s not a show for moths, but for fine motors or maybe not? The purpose, the atmosphere is hard to describe. People in the front seats of the theatre are raging, beer is being spilled on the floor and poured down throats. Bottles clink. “Na zdrowie!”, “Prost!”, “Cheers” spreads in the cacophony of drink-infused premiere heat. Everyone’s excited. Most present here got a cameo role in the production and now – at Wolfsgruppe Cars & BBQ – after 9 months from VAG Event we were about to see the “birth” of Loniek’s new baby.
We’re one big family here and for such family events like this many “uncles” come to celebrate together. ‘Ladies und Herren, please sit down, będzie film’ – announced the MC. The crowd was buzzing, someone whistled… everyone was here. VW Club Affenmacher Berlin, cult-style.de, VAG Korps and even the superstar of the production we were about to see – Sylka. Only a few heads from Wolfsgruppe were missed. The operator pressed ‘play’.
The movie started, but the sounds could be barely heard, drowned out by the excited people jumping in their seats every now and again, cheering and laughing… enjoying the show, re-living VAG Event 2014 once again. When the video ended, the noise got even louder. It was so loud it could be heard in Poznań 50 kilometres away. Standing ovations!
Every one enjoyed the clip so much that we had to watch it once again. Repeat. We kept on repeating until early morning, but not the video now, but flipping bottles upside down in strive to consume the contents. At 5am our German friends announced that ‘Tyskie ist das beste bier in der Welt’ and bouncing off hallway walls, they went to sleep. We had more Tyskie.
Finally spring has arrived, cars changed wheels, winter mode has been turned off and we were about to see some fresh projects at Wolfsgruppe Cars & BBQ. Almost awesome! The spring has arrived a little early though, after only 2 hours of sleep and now I was standing at the lake, where the show was being held, gazing at its flat surface. Freezing cold, wind blowing in my face, I hoped it would wake me up.
‘Come here, have to show you something’ – my mate Yasiu called me over to show me Texas’ VW Caddy Mk1 or rather its new shoes and soles – custom 9,5J and 11,5J Lincoln Town Car wheels with sick stretch! The sight was quite shocking and did slightly wake me up.
Slightly, but not fully, half asleep I wandered around the marina trying to take some pictures but at the end of the day I got only a few. ‘No problem’, I thought, cars don’t matter that much. After over ten years living the life dictated by lowered VWs, enslaved by scraping cars, today it is the people who we meet at all this shows that matter the most. Without them these cars would never exist. We meet only a few times a year yet we always have a great time together and endless topics to chat about. Especially here at events organised by Wolfsgruppe – thanks to the atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else! BBQ was great! Now can’t wait until VAG Event!
